Chairs, cushions, stools and blankets are provided. Every weekday (Monday through Friday) at 08:00 AM and 17:30 PM. Please arrive 5 minutes before the start time. There is no need to book; just drop by when you can. Free of charge!

14:00 [14:00] Sufi Healing Hour with Fateah Alice Saunders
Description:
Sufi Healing Hour at the Salisbury Centre twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesday at 2.00 pm (but please turn up early for a prompt start) Led by Fateah Alice Saunders The Healing Ritual - also called the Healing Service - was given to his close followers by Sufi mystic Hazrat Inayat Khan during the early years of the 20th century, and may be carried out by trained healing conductors in the Dervish Healing Order and other Hazrati healing orders. It takes about 20 mins, providing meditative and contemplative space, interwoven with prayers, for participants to attune to peace and healing before names are read out, one by one, of 10 people who have requested healing. As each name is read we keep in mind sacred words of healing with the meaning: O Divine Healer, please send remedy for what is needed. Places on the earth suffering devastation as a result of conflict, earthquake, flood etc. may also be sent healing. Prior to the above, we prepare ourselves in a variety of ways, notably through breath purification practices, singing sacred phrases and repeating sacred words. At the start, participants are invited to offer names of friends or relatives who have requested spiritual healing. If you have someone in mind before attending Sufi Healing Hour please be sure to ask that person first. Exceptions are for a small child when a parent may request the child’s name to be included. Also for a very elderly or ill person no longer able to take that decision for her/himself, a relative or close friend may request on their behalf. Please also note that the name of a person who has recently passed may be included if requested by a close friend or relative. In this case we focus on a peaceful transition. If anyone reading this would like healing for her/himself, please send an e-mail to Fateah alicefateah@btinternet.com giving your full name and a few words just to indicate whether healing may be required long-term. Participants at Sufi Healing Hour may not be included among the 10 names. However, participants usually do notice various benefits for themselves after attending Sufi Healing Hour, especially if attendance is regular.

18:00 [18:45] Compassion Based Living Course
Description:
Programme dates: 3rd May – 14th June Days & times: Seven 2-hour sessions, every Wednesday (6:45pm-8:45pm) beginning 3rd May + One 4-hour session on Sunday 4th June (2pm-6pm) (Week 5). Programme duration: 7 weeks/18 hours Location: The Salisbury Centre, 2 Salisbury Rd, Edinburgh EH16 5AB Programme fee: £180 for new students; £140 for continuing students and Academy members (includes all course materials, welcome pack, online support and Academy Membership) Payable online at clearwateracademy.net If you are in a difficult financial situation, please get in touch with us. The Compassion Based Living Course (CBLC), delivered over seven evening sessions and one longer practice session on a Sunday afternoon, draws on insights and practices from neuroscience, evolutionary psychology and Mahayana Buddhism, and is a great next step after an 8-week mindfulness course. Developed by the Mindfulness Association, this secular course starts with building self-compassion into basic mindfulness practice. Through compassionate imagery and mindful self- compassion, we cultivate positive emotions as a way of building up an inner resource, from which we can approach the difficulties that are part and parcel of being alive. We then approach the self-critic: that persistent inner voice that is harsh and condemning, and always finding fault in what we do. What it would be like to cultivate an inner voice that is kind and supportive, and to live life from this place, rather than from a place of destructive self-criticism? In the course of the journey we move from self-compassion towards compassion for others, exploring practices which help us find balance and perspective beyond our narrow preferences, generating love and friendliness to our inner and outer worlds, responding appropriately to pain and suffering while also appreciating the good things in our lives, integrating compassion into all that we do. As there is a strong emphasis on the experiential nature of the course, there are home practice suggestions between the sessions that include regular compassion practice and daily life exercises. The longer session on the Sunday gives the opportunity to dive deeper into the practice in a supportive retreat-like setting.

[18:45] Edinburgh Shambhala Meditation Group
Description:
Wednesday meditation evenings Meditation practice, with sitting and walking meditation and shamata yoga (no kit required). Individual meditation instruction is available by arrangement. Everyone welcome, just come along! We meet every Wednesday evening at 6:45pm for meditation, simple yoga, talks and discussion. Several times a year we will offer an evening course of five classes, or a weekend workshop lasting one or two days. We start with a session of meditation, then a brief walking meditation or shamatha yoga. We may have a talk by one of our resident teachers, by a visiting teacher, listen to a DVD or other recording, do a contemplation, read a book chapter or have a discussion. We end with tea and biscuits. Meditation instruction is available from one of our trained meditation instructors (Rod or Angie) by previous arrangement - either meeting before the main session, or at the same time if space is available in one of the other rooms. We do not charge for the meditation sessions or instruction, but welcome a donation to cover the cost of renting the space (this usually works out at around £2-5 per person)
